Prisoners' Legal Rights Group
The Prisoners' Legal Rights Group was formed in recognition of the fact that individual lawyers and people working in small organisations do much of the work around defending prisoners' legal rights. The aim of the PLRG is to provide a forum in which information about Prison Law can be shared between those organisations and individuals. In June 1997 the PLRG began producing a quarterly bulletin, which is distributed to all members. The bulletin contains information about new legislation and cases, a list of new Prison Service Instructions and Orders and commentary on Prison Service policy changes.
Members of the PLRG include solicitors, barristers, academic organisations, journalists, prison libraries and prisoners. Membership is free to prisoners, £30 for libraries and voluntary organisations, £50 for Academic institutions, solicitors, barristers and professionals/other. We operate a document copying service for – PSO’s and PSI’s etc. which are (£0.10 per printed page for members, minimum of £5.00 and £0.15 for non-members).
