Prisoners’ Advice Service welcomes the Female Offender Strategy released by the Ministry of Justice on Wednesday, 27 June, and wholeheartedly agrees with the proposed action and steps identified to address the complex needs of women prisoners. However, as raised by other organisations in response to the release of the strategy, we are deeply concerned about the lack of funding being invested in the implementation of the strategy. For the intention of Government to be meaningful in any way, it must be accompanied by a significant level of funding to guarantee its implementation. It otherwise risks becoming yet another strategy incapable of being put into practice.
