250 MORE CELLS TO BE BUILT AT HMP WAYLAND
The government has confirmed that around 250 more cells will be built at HMP Wayland by the end of 2028 – increasing the capacity of the prison to 1,450. The construction works will also include new classrooms, a workshop, an all-weather pitch and exercise areas. Ten prison leavers will allegedly also form part of the construction team.
This project forms part of the Ministry of Justice’s £500 million ‘Accelerated Houseblocks Delivery Programme’ which will trigger the expansion of six prisons.
