PAS was saddened to learn of the recent death of Conor Gearty KC (Hon), professor of human rights law at LSE and founding member of Matrix Chambers. Professor Gearty delivered our annual lecture in 2017, taking as his topic, “Prisons – A Life Without (Human) Rights?”

Gearty passed away suddenly on 11 September 2025, aged 67. He is survived by his wife, Professor Aoife Nolan, and children Eliza, Owen, Éile, and Fiadh.
